September Meeting Held

With a change in venue to the Reserve Branch of the St. John the Baptist Parish Library, and despite the torrential downpours of heavy rain, many members and guests turned out to hear member Emory Webre of St. Louis, MO.  Webre gave a very interesting presentation on the Slaves and Freed St. Slaves of St. Michael's Convent (aka Sacred Heart Convent) at Convent, St. James Parish, Louisiana.  His material gave a glimpse into the many details of the slaves' lives as well as the nuns who ran the convent.

Emory's research was discovered in the Religious of the Sacred Heart Archives in St. Louis.  He plans to publish this information in upcoming issues of Les Voyageurs.   As always, it was good to see Emory and his wife Jane, we hope that they return soon and often -- we know Emory will draw crowds to our meetings.
